ABOUT JAYNE
British born Jayne Foster completed her master's degree in womenswear at the Royal College of Art in 2001, and spent many years as a successful fashion designer in London. In around 2007, Jayne began experimenting with etching presses and printmaking at Central St. Martin's school of Art, and began incorporating these techniques into more of her visual arts practice, developing new techniques which blurred the lines between illustration and abstraction.
After moving to California in 2012, she began to focus more pointedly on printmaking, and focused her efforts on mastering the technical details of monotype image production. In 2018, she began an Artist-in-Residence program at the Kala Art Institute, and continues to produce much of her work from the Kala studio in Berkeley, California.
Jayne’s work typically embraces strong colours, evocative forms and often conflicting elements of pattern and texture to create unique interpretive compositions. Her roots in fashion design continue to influence her approach to printmaking, and elements of pattern cutting techniques, fabric detailing and illustrative methods are subtly evident in her contemporary printed works.
Jayne’s prints have been exhibited in both the UK and the USA
